Discover how you can dynamically build or alter your users’ IBM Lotus Quickr connector entries at login time. Whether you need to accommodate users who log into Quickr from a variety of machines or you require control of users’ place entries, you can provide your users’ with place entries in their Quickr connectors easily and automatically. Administrators can use the provided code “as is” for a basic level of control over users’ connector entries. The code is also flexible enough to serve as the departure point for developers wishing to extend it for more specialized requirements.

The IBM Lotus Quickr connectors are a great way to provide access to Quickr places with little or no administration overhead. Your users can simply add or remove place entries as they see fit. But what happens when you need to push out place entries automatically to your users — for example, when you have places accessed by workers who may not have email accounts to receive notification of newly available places, or you’ve restricted the ability of users to add places to their connectors? If your users don’t have roaming Windows profiles and need to maintain their connector place entries on multiple machines, what happens then?
In cases like these, it can be extremely valuable to be able to dynamically build or modify your users’ connector entries, ensuring that users have the place entries they need, when they need them. As of version 8.1.1, there is no out-of-the-box mechanism to achieve this functionality with Quickr. I’ll show you how you can quickly put together a solution that will amaze your friends, please your users, and solidify your reputation as an IT guru. At the very least, your help desk people will greatly appreciate the reduced number of calls they get regarding connector configuration.
Although this code-based solution article uses Quickr’s Web Service API, a deep understanding of Web services is not necessary.
