The jQuery JavaScript library is an often-overlooked resource that can greatly simplify your Web application development. Much of its value lies in the many plug-ins available for it. Learn how to use some of the most useful plug-ins with step-by-step instructions for setting them up.

jQuery is an open-source JavaScript library that makes it quick and easy to do all kinds of interesting things in your Web applications. I´ll show you some of the great plug-ins available to extend its already significant capabilities. What’s a plug-in? It´s simply additional code that a developer has written to extend jQuery´s capabilities. Typically, you include another JavaScript library or two and make calls to the new functionality. It’s easy to do, as you will discover momentarily. Some plug-ins work in Domino just as they are, while you can extend others to do even more by using Domino design elements. You´ll see what I mean as you work your way through some examples with me.
This is the third in my series of three articles about using jQuery with IBM Lotus Domino. Not familiar with jQuery? You may want to read the first article in this series, "Get Started with jQuery for Faster Web Application Development" (THE VIEW, April 2009). The second article, "Build Type-Ahead into Your Applications Using Ajax and jQuery" (THE VIEW,/span>, May 2009), concentrates on some of jQuery´s core functionality.
You’re welcome to do nothing more than read this article, of course, but if you really want to learn this stuff, plan on getting your hands dirty by working along with me.
