Formerly known as the "full" Notes client, Notes Designer for Domino (D4D) is the design environment for building Notes and Domino applications that can be accessed by both Notes clients and Web browsers. D4D 4.6 includes enhancements to the Notes end-user interface it shares with the Notes Desktop and Notes Mail clients, such as support for Portfolio databases. In addition, D4D offers many enhancements which extend its capabilities as a Web application development tool: elimination of most $$ fields, the ability to add computed text to Web pages, new options for adding background graphics to forms and documents, anchor links for navigating to a specific place within a document, Navigators that look as good and work as well in a Web browser as they do in a Notes client, and enhanced Java applet support. D4D also has a design preview feature that lets you see what a newly designed Web page will look like through a Web browser. This article gives you a look at what’s new in D4D and some ideas on how to get started using this expanded client functionality.
