The IBM WebSphere server can be used in combination with the Domino server to provide a very complementary set of technologies, with WebSphere handling Java servlets, JSPs, and EJBs, and Domino handling everything else (UI and LotusScript workflow agents, for example). This division of labor helps Domino-based applications grow to meet new demands -- such as the business-to-business or e-commerce application that must handle hundreds, or even thousands, of requests per hour and incorporate database transactions with a back-end relational database or ERP system. This article looks at how WebSphere works together with Domino, and it demonstrates a sample application.
