A corrupt local cache is one of the most common causes of Notes client help desk calls. It isn’t difficult to fix - the trick is to do it without losing the user’s bookmarks. Learn the secret to preserving bookmarks in this quick tip.

After resolving a typical help desk call, there are two hoped for outcomes: the problem is solved, and the user is happy — or at least reasonably satisfied. Unfortunately, when a Notes client user is calling with an "illegal circular use" or "frame" error, there’s a good chance that you will achieve only half of your ideal outcomes. If the user has saved bookmarks, the problem will be fixed, but the user will not likely be happy. The reason is that the user’s bookmarks — all of those handy links to Notes and Domino applications, Web pages, archives, and the like — will be lost. For a user who lives by bookmarks, it can be understandably upsetting.
Here’s how you can be a hero to that user and preserve those bookmarks.
