JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), a lightweight data-interchange format, isn’t just for the Web — learn how Notes 5+ developers can use it in client-side applications. Domino 7.0.2+ developers also see how to access Notes data in JSON format directly from views on the server. JSON-formatted data is easy to generate or read and ready to process directly in JavaScript code without parsing, making development easier and faster than when using XML formats. It’s also more compact than XML, requires less bandwidth, and yields better performance. Using JSON with JavaScript uniquely enables developers to load data on demand or update fields when a value is selected from a variety of controls. Two demonstration databases avaliable at www.eVIEW.com (one each for the Notes client and Domino server) show how easy it is to generate or consume JSON data from different sources, populate fields with values from JSON objects, and present data quickly.
